For those who have not seen the wonderful movie "
Slap Shot" then, simply put, do so. One unmissable Paul Newman movie to say the least. It is also a movie with
sequels that should definitely be avoided. A classic case of Hollywood (or insert large studio name applicable here) doing their best to fail their customers (as they are currently doing with their secret ACTA machinations) and alienating those who enjoy a good film or ten.
Filmed in
Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the movie is about a failing ice hockey team who are inspired by their coach to win. Warmly comedic.
Sadly the town has suffered a severe decline and fall in the number of residents and, as a result, the
Johnstown Chiefs are packing up and moving elsewhere. The resultant hit on the local economy is likely to be significant. The NYT has an article
here.
