Race to the Top Scheme

Much has been said regarding the "Race to the Top" proposal and 'competition'. While the principles of the scheme are 'good', an education system should not be based upon a lottery type scheme in order to receive government funding. Education should be funded... full stop / period (whatever word you use)... and on the basis of the proposed measures for assessment as per the scheme. Enough damage has been done by the "No Child Left Behind" nonsense as well as by the impact of social change and educational standards falling. Any society is only truly as good as its people. Produce a mass of self-indulgent numb-skulls and the ability of that society to function effectively against another that is educated/trained to think and reason and it will fail or stagnate...
