A Cornucopia of links #09

1. Willis Carter was a cool(ing) man... he changed the face of America... here.

2. $330,000 McMansion... yours for $16... and a three year wait... here.

3. Along came a spider... which was bigger? Here.

4. 3D Printing... video here.

5. Taking photographs in a public place for non-commercial use is legal (UK)... some do not think so though... here.

6. "pizzlies" or "grolars." - here.

7. The ´Wrongulator´ ... here.

8. You might end up in a bit of a jam with this.. here. Of course this would change your position in the pectin order.... (sorry about the last bit)...

9. If you like to take photographs and do clicky and snappy things while exposing yourself then this site is for you... here. The English is odd but the ideas and tips are not.

10. Finally, some REAL speakers for your laptop... here.

11. Google Sight seeing...here.

12. Quick Forget... for what reason/purpose I am not sure... here.

13. What a load of ... here.

14. If you wonder why some of Google ¨What do you love?¨ searches do not work, there is a list of the words banned from being used ... (NSFW) here. There are a couple of words in the list that are new to me. ´Cheese´ is OK. ´Head´ is OK. ´Cheese Head´ is OK. Equally, so is ´Head Cheese´. You just have to know what things are. There is a description of what ´Head Cheese´ actually is ... here. Now, I will throw down a gauntlet to whoever can come up with another valid WDYL malapropism.

14a. The wonderful ´Language Log´ has some very interesting articles/discussions/subjects... even cartoons that result in some interesting dialogues... here.

14b. And, just in case you were wondering, a paper has been written which provides a detailed analysis of the word that proves there is no ´F´ in ¨butter¨ - the word ´f**k¨ - can be found at this (NSFW) link (downloadable PDF) and abstract... here.

I particularly liked the citation from ¨The Politically correct United States Supreme Court and the Motherf**king Texas Court of Criminal Appeals: Using Legal Databases to Trace the Origins of Words and Quotations, in LANGUAGE AND THE LAW 367, 368 (Marlyn Robinson ed. 2003)¨. This can be found on Page 6 of th PDF.

15. Reuters ´Photos of the Week´... here.

16. I am sure you are aware of a famous saying re this incident... here.
