Off to the Netherlands

Things will be quiet for a short while as I travel off to the Netherlands for work. Updates to come shortly and also a few views/photos/info for you...

The False Promise of Hydrogen Power

This article is very interesting. Particularly as it is backed up with good science rather than political rhetoric...

Boston Update: With 24's Jack Bauer

This YouTube link is wonderful. Sound and vision!

I like cats but...

But this! Good grief.

RIP Chloe 8th September 2006

For fans of Blazing Saddles / Blues Brothers...

... and Rawhide. (with of course Clint Eastwood as Rowdy Yates).

RIP - Frankie Laine.

A sad day... here. But here for the lyrics.

My personal favourite of his was 'Cool Water' BUT sung by Marty Robbins (thanks for that from Chris in Hull, UK).

Just plain Diiirty

Scott Wade is amazing... thanks Dim!

Superbowl Wardrobe Malfunction my rrrrrrrrrr's

Malfunction schmalfunction... Prince at the Superbowl.

Is it me or are some people just seriously twisted? Good grief.

Unlike the REAL Prince and his wardrobe malfunction or here.

The guy is a musical genius (and I am sure the person who wrote the link also wrote letters to her friends in green ink!). Prince is able to play a lot of instruments (but has some strange fans)

Problem is I do not like all of the poseur aspect related to him. And Don in Oshkosh - no you cannot have my t-shirt from his 1988 concert at the NEC Birmingham UK ... it is much treasured (and smells too) but I will eat gambas pilpil for you. After all, I am hotpepperman!

The Wrong Stuff for The Right Stuff

Is an astronaut God? My botherer-in-law (Hi, Peter! How's the Cod?) is a great fan of "The Right Stuff - by Tom Wolfe"

The geek friendly story relating to the astronaut love triangle has many facets. Media intrusion, work pressures, public intrusion.... voyeurism ... whatever.

If this woman had been from the projects or (insert low income housing name here) then this would not have been a news item...

Mind you, the BBC website has a less than flattering picture of her

Smelling Pistakes

Being married to an American has many blessings. One of these is the linguistic challenges that are regularly presented to an English speaker like myself (e.g. I call those things in the picture above TOE-MAR-TOES and not TOE-MAY-TOES (at this point you may break into mental singing of "you say ... and I say")). If you look back through my blogs you will notice I spell 'scarey' the way I was taught (Queens English etc). Wife being who she is points out that this site is the DB ( 1. 2. 3.) of web based dictionaries.

And, latest comment is "How old is Windows 2000?". Almost as good as what number do I dial for the emergency services?

Additionally she commented "Sadly, 1% of the blog visitors already are Vista users". Now that IS a review of Windows Vista!

Welcome to my world - Part 1

Blogging is a curious thing. It opens lots of horizons and closes others. Your approach to life can change dramatically. This blog has been up for a short time but today I welcomed my 12th country to these missives. Hello Canada!

Ainsley Harriott & his sausage (or is that fork?)

The picture here is doing the rounds on the internet so I thought I would add my viral promotion to it as well. Why? I believe it is in the 'wood for the trees' department or 'common sense would dictate' (no pun intended...).

So far I have not been able to verify that it really is as so on the packet...

Thanks to MikeP for that.

Things NOT to do in Japan

The guy was drunk and has admitted being 'silly' (or other words)... but scarey!

Taste Changing Fruit

Can be found here and also here. You can also order seeds and the fruit at (I think) US $1 a piece (in the States I assume - elsewhere I do not know) from the guy here:

Curtis Mozie 410 SW 29th Terrace Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33312 U.S.A.

Telephone: +1-954-587-3766
Mobile: +1-954-270-7884

Miracle fruit trees, fruit, and seeds or seedlings available by request.

But I have found no email address...

Comments re Google - No. 1

This site points out the tracking that Google does. With the NoScript add on for Firefox you can block things like 'google-analytics' out but there is more... there are also some other interesting things they write about.

A reminder for the site here...

A while back I indexed to here. This person has a wonderful slant on life - using index cards.

Kikkoman Sauce is never like this in my shops

Wow... and of course here is good if you like to cook and like Kikkoman.

(but it does have irritating swf )

Some of the best of 2006

Best inventions of 2006 (according to Time).

Mind you, I would not want to be the soldier here. "Easy R2, easy!"...

Given the mean weight of an obese child is 297 pounds then what will they weigh when 18 years old, in the military, with a full pack, and several chunks of shrapnel in them I do not know.

No cynicism intended there... but here ... on the other hand I will ask the question "Why are these not available for non-military purposes?". If there are some then please let me know by leaving a comment. There appears to be a lot of research and many prototypes are to be found (Google for "robots for disabled people"), but not a lot (that I can find) of REAL product.

The military ones are rather amazing though. Wonder if your medical insurance covers it?

No I do not know which satellite is which...

Some can be found here for use in the 'pretty place'

Still a pretty place despite everything we are doing to it...

Hee Bee Gee Bees

Someone (Ms. Azerty - merci ) sent me a movie file from Kenwood (car entertainment systems) which reminded me of these guys. Most Brits should recognise the guy in the middle as Angus Deayton of "Have I Got News for You" and "One Foot In The Grave" fame.

If you want me to send you the file the original Kenwood file then let me know. Bandwidth permitting.

Update: Windows Vista Review

I mentioned I was trying to find feedback on Windows Vista. Nothing yet but this article is interesting for both the content and the comments raised below it..

Now I may not be a fan of Bush but...

... these cartoons I like for their artwork, their characterisations, and they are also funny and pertinent. Thank you Walt for your take on Boston and thank you Newsday.

And this is REALLY disturbing... note the mean weight is 297 pounds. That is a serious amount of lard...

UPDATE: Terms of Use BEFORE you visit the site

I previously posted comments relating to a web site with potentially over-restrictive terms of use. Since doing this their "Terms of Use" & "Privacy Policy" pages return a '404 not found' error message.

Reality and common sense seem to prevail sometimes. Hopefully, an updated, reasonable, and truly sensible version will appear. Still not sure regarding the efficacy of the product/s though.

e.g. This sort of thing -->

If you have a small apartment and/or guests arrive...

This is great... not sure how it works though.

Windows Vista Speech Recognition

This man deserves total kudos for thinking of this in the first place!

And if you do go looking for 'Airport announcements' you will find the same old dreary "I invented this idea in the first place" plagiarism (including the same smelling pistakes also)... almost like the Darwin Awards for viral marketing campaigns too i.e. most of the stories cannot be proven and are generally urban myths.
