There is an interesting, although currently 10 years or more out of date, graphical timeline on the development of computer languages here.
A rather "lite" version of the same can be found here. This one I find bad for its omissions, errors, its failure to associate the development of programming languages with the technological advances made in parallel, and also a big thumbs down for the rather vapid comments...
