... apparently... see the BBC web site on this... here. I used to own a Ford vehicle which were renowned for the little variation of the keys manufactured. I only found this out when I came out of a supermarket, unlocked and got into 'my' car, and turned on the engine. The cassette (remember those) of country music which began to play was the immediate give away. Apart from that, the two cars (parked less than 50 feet apart) were identical in every respect (one would hope so as they were the same model, same colour, from the same year, from the same dealer!)...
At the time, Ford's 'justifications' and attempts to pass the buck were eerily similar...
