Know what meat you are eating... literally. This is a rather excellent idea but for the likes of Smithfield (large American AND European pork 'manufacturer') this would prove very problematic due to the factory output quantities they produce. Now, if you want to know about Smithfield... Jeff Tietz did an expose of of them in Rolling Stone magazine in 2007. I would normally link directly to this BUT Smithfield had this taken down and issued a 'Fact v Fiction' response on their website (without being cynical, note that they persistently refer to government/State legislation yet make no mention of their lobbying and DC links) ... BUT, with the interwebtubenets being what the are.... there is a cached version of the article here. Yes, it IS a long article but you really should read it.
