You are what you grow - The Farm Bill

Dr. Adam Drewnowski is a world-renowned leader in innovative research approaches for the prevention and treatment of obesity. The work he is perhaps most ´famous´ for is his (it is almost obvious) finding that a supermarket has all of its healthy/healthier foods around the edge of their building with the cheap (and mainly worse) food choices containing the greater number of calories in the aisles in the centre. There are some instant supermarket secrets here though. And another ´shop the perimeter´ short article here.

Thanks to TF for this article here. The writer, Michael Pollan, points out the disparity in healthy food choices and the Farm Bill which provides subsidies for the growing of the ´staples´ of processed food - corn, soybeans and wheat – $25 billion a year - rice and cotton are two others. As a result, eating well can cost you a significant amount of money (without some planning behind it). More on the 2012 bill here and here.

Meanwhile... there are some interesting facts here.
