Super Stemmys

UPDATE 04/25

I love it when I receive an ill-informed comment against a post. In particular, the ignorance shown by someone who does not have the cajones to identify themselves when clearly they have not read a posting properly. To the anonymous poster: can you please learn the basics of reading properly before making a post to a blog. It is unclear (due to the poorly constructed comment) whether you are referring to myself or to the author of the book "Super Stemmys". You should perhaps focus on things like reading detail instead of assumptive postings where you have insufficient credibility against the wild and unqualified statements you make. Given the nature of your claims, perhaps you have sufficient facts to back up your "I've researched you and your claims" statement as without this qualification your determination that David Granovsky is lying is currently unfounded and borders on a libelous statement by yourself. I can only assume that you do not have the information as you have not posted anything to substantiate and support your wild and inappropriate claims. It is clear that you have failed to establish any facts regarding Mr. Granovsky by performing an appropriate level of research into his credentials. With the internet and a little bit of intelligent searching this is possible.. here. Should you wish to retract your statements I will leave it to you to do so in a socially responsible way instead of 'hiding' behind "anonymous" identity.

Were Mr. Gronovsky to read this he could form the same opinion and I would have no option but to pass on to him the relevant IP address information for 'Anonymous' of Strasburg, Pennsylvania should he require it in pursuit of any redress. I have no links whatsoever with the author of the book other than through posting links to the book. Clearly 'Anonymous' is so ill informed that they also fail to understand that I can see their locale and IP address.

UPDATE

Since writing this post I have been contacted by the author and his comment is below.

Let me first give myself a BIG slap on the wrist for 'shooting from the hip' (or should that be 'from the IP') by basing my comments on what I thought I read between the lines from the reviews others made of a book I had NOT read. For this I apologise to the author David Granovsky unreservedly as my comments and intent could easily be misconstrued as an unfavourable opinion of the book. I have now seen the book on Amazon and viewed parts of the book using 'Look Inside'. My comments were ill thought out. If anything I based my comments upon my own knowledge as a former teacher who specialised in the teaching of reading and dyslexia and it was not my intention to be negative about the book in any way shape or form. I foolishly read the comments made by others and formed my opinion on these. I was wrong.

I strongly believe in the benefits of education, of the importance of involving children in the world around them, encouraging them to read, and most of all to "learn how to learn". Anyone who actively seeks to do this, as evidenced by the comments made by David, deserves full and unequivocal praise. Too much damage has already been done by the "No Child Left Behind" farce and anything that goes toward correcting that should be highlighted and praised. There is a real need for some grass roots change to improve failing standards in education.

As the saying goes "People who live in glass houses...". Mine has a big crack in it due to my failure to think about what I was writing. David, I apologise most profusely and hope this goes some way toward making up for my being inconsiderate over my choice of words.

For any other blogger reading this; read and learn from my mistake.

I am in two minds about this book myself. Given the setbacks that US scientists faced as a result of some ill-thought policies from a previous incumbent of the White House, any efforts to get some proper scientific thought and education out there is good. Trying to educate children at too early and age when their world awareness, boundaries, and knowledge of most things is limited, can be info overload. I think this book is just that. Targeted at the wrong audience in the wrong style... here. Written by someone from here. Reviewed here.

An unfortunate juxtaposition of the publishing technique though:

Clarifying who I am and why I wrote the book:
This book adresses the therapuetic benefits of adult stem cells. Adult stem cells are found in everybody’s body and all they do is repair necrotic tissue and generate new tissue to heal the body. Embryonic stem cells often cause tumors and have controversy associated with them; they come from embryos. Adult stem cells are found in blood, bone marrow, mother’s milk, placenta, amniotic fluid, umbilical cords, teeth, fat, menstruation, etc.

I am a freelance writer. http://repairstemcells.org is one of my many clients.

In 2004 I worked for the first commercial stem cell treatment facility in the world. I watched them as they treated congestive heart failure patients who were tired of being stuck on transplant lists for hearts that might never materialize. I watched these patients brought in on wheelchairs with gray complexions and oxygen canisters. I then saw them come back later on their own power with smiles on their faces and a bounce in their step. These were people who were doubling their ejection fractions (vol of blood pumped out of their hearts) and people who went from Level 3 or 4 congestive heart failure down to Level one. This is the difference between the rest of their short lives in a bed waiting for a heart transplant at Level 3 or 4 AND playing tennis, making love to their spouses, chasing their grandchildren around at Level 2.

This experience, coupled with a personal desire to find a treatment for diabetes (for someone very close to me) prompted me to research stem cells and I was quickly enthralled by the therapeutic benefits possible with adult stem cell treatments.

I soon started writing about stem cells for some of the top stem cell doctors, scientists, patient advocacy and treatment facilities in the world, created my stem cell blog with ~960 posts on it [ http://repairstemcell.wordpress.com ] and wrote the children’s book on the subject to increase awareness [ http://bit.ly/StemCellBook4Kids ] so people could understand some of the options they didn't know about and make informed health decisions.

One last thought...did you read the book? If so, I would love to hear your opinion. Otherwise, and I mean this as unsnarky as possible...perhaps it is wise to not judge a book by it's cover?

I've researched you and your claims and regardless of whther your book is accurate or not...you have no expertise and most of your claims of experience such as "In 2004 I worked for the first commercial stem cell treatment facility in the world. I watched them as they treated congestive heart failure patients who were tired of being stuck on transplant lists for hearts that might never materialize. I watched these patients brought in on wheelchairs with gray complexions and oxygen canisters. I then saw them come back later on their own power with smiles on their faces and a bounce in their step." are simply lies.
