Outsourcing Education

When Americans are paying $40k + to have their children receive a university education it is good to know that their hard work is being given due consideration by the professor who may be actually presenting the specialist subject area. In this article here, it is somewhat interesting that the professor almost bemoans the fact that there is so much work to do. As you read the article, do some simple math regarding the number of students to be taught and the number (7) of 'teaching assistants' who are presenting much of the course work. While there are apprenticeships and on the job training, the direct assessment of work performed by a student can only be carried out properly if you understand the individual behind the work.

If I was paying this sort of money I would not expect any assessment of work completed to be outsourced to an offshore company whose metrics are used to measure 'student artifacts'. Somewhat pompous writing style.

The comments against the article state some of the obvious thoughts that spring to mind. Personally I would ask how a professor is actually spending their time given the number of students, semester days, and TA's available.

For some reason, the photograph makes me think of Mad Max or similar and glowing red eyes and flames shooting out of fingers...
